Located two miles west of Mansfield and one mile north of Sutton in Ashfield, close to Stanton Hill lying on the B6014 road.

Mansfield Road


Skegby Hall Gardens were build about 1720 on foundations
of a much earlier dwelling by the Lindley Family.
The Hall has been in continuous occupation to the current time.

This is probably the Whitsuntide Walk in Skegby
The lady standing first right is Clarice Weston nee Hawksley.
The lady on the left is Olive Kirk b.1894, one of a large family who lived at one time in a stone cottage on Forest Road,
which was demolished and replaced by new buildings close to Milner Street.
The man on the cart to the left on the piano/harmonium,is possibly Matthew Pickard who became a local Methodist preacher.
He married Clara Kirk, sister of Olive and they had 11 children
The other man is Harry Weston.
The banner states "Suffer Little Children To Come Unto Me".

The lady on the left is Olive Kirk b.1894, one of a large family who lived at one time in a stone cottage on Forest Road,
which was demolished and replaced by new buildings close to Milner Street.
The man on the cart to the left on the piano/harmonium,is possibly Matthew Pickard who became a local Methodist preacher.
He married Clara Kirk, sister of Olive and they had 11 children
The other man is Harry Weston.
The banner states "Suffer Little Children To Come Unto Me".

Dalestorth House

Dalestorth House was built in 1750 but the site was previously occupied by "The Cock Inn" since the 16th century.
In the 17th century, Rev.Thomas Hurt enlarged the house, beginning to live at Dalestorth in 1778.
In the early 19th century, John Miller, a maltster and farmer became owner.
In 1832 it was listed as a "Ladies Boarding Establishment" and later an "Establishment For Young Ladies"
The School commenced in 1806 under Mrs Miller, wife of an Hosiery Worker, in order to provide a supplementary income.
In 1972 it was listed by English Heritage
